Cancellation & Refund Policies
The below information outlines our cancellation and refund policies for our online courses, online and in-person coaching sessions, classes, seminars, and surf retreats. Please read these carefully before making a purchase.

Private & Group In-Person Surf Lessons
In-person surf lessons can be rescheduled as follows:
- with 48 hours written notice, no fee.
- with less than 48 hours written notice, fee equal to 30% of the original paid lesson price.
In-person surf lessons can be cancelled as follows:
- with 48 hours written notice, full refund.
- with less than 48 hours written notice, no refund.
- no-shows with no notice, no refund.
The Independent Surfer reserves the right to reschedule or change the location of any in-person surf lessons. In the event that the Independent Surfer reschedules or change the location of an in-person lesson and you no longer wish to take the lesson, you can cancel and we will provide you with a full refund.
Surf Club
The Independent Surfer Surf Club schedule will be posted at the time of registration. Due to the group format of our surf club, we cannot accommodate changes to class dates and times.
- If you have registered for Surf Club and you wish to cancel your participation, you may do so and receive a full refund if you provide us with at least 15 days written notice prior to the first scheduled club meeting. No refunds will be provided if you cancel your participation in Surf Club less than 15 days before the first scheduled club meeting, or after the first schedule club meeting.
- You are welcome to skip any surf or theory sessions. However, we cannot offer make-up sessions and we will not provide a refund for any sessions missed.
We may need to reschedule Surf Club surf sessions in the case of inclement weather or rain. If this occurs, we will offer a few alternative surf session times to your group within a one-week period of the originally scheduled lesson. Your Surf Club group will make a decision of which alternative surf session time to select based on a majority vote.
In the case that we need to reschedule a Surf Club surf session due to an unforeseen emergency or personal reason, we will offer a few alternative surf sessions times to the group within a two-weeks period of the originally scheduled lesson. Your Surf Club group will make a decision of which alternative surf session time to select based on a majority vote.
In the case of a personal emergency requiring us to postpone Surf Club for greater than two weeks, we will provide you with the option to cancel and receive a refund pro-rated based on the number of sessions already completed.
Online Courses
Due to the nature of our online materials, we do not provide any refunds on online course purchases.
You may cancel a subscription anytime through your profile and payment settings or by contacting us at jordy@independentsurfer.com.
Sometimes our website has a mind of its own, so if you believe you have been incorrectly charged for a canceled subscription, please contact us at jordy@independentsurfer.com. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Retreats & Trips
Payments:
- To reserve your spot on an Independent Surfer trip, we require a $500 USD strict non-refundable deposit.
- Full payment is due at least 90 days before the trip start date.
Cancellations:
If you wish to cancel for any reason, you will receive a percentage refund as follows:
- 100% refund if cancelled 90 days of more before trip start date.
- 75% refund if cancelled 70 days or more before trip start date.
- 50% refund if cancelled 50 days or more before trip start date.
- 25% refund if cancelled 30 days or more before trip start date.
- 0% refund if cancelled less than 30 days before trip start date.
Testing Covid-19 Positive:
The Independent Surfer will not provide a refund if you are unable to travel due to testing positive for Covid-19.
Force Majeure Cancellations:
A trip may be cancelled or altered due to a “force majeure” event. Force majeure is (1) an unforeseeable event, (2) outside of our or our service providers’ control, that (3) renders the performance of our retreat impossible or impractical (including, but not limited to, acts of god, severe weather events, armed conflict, pandemics, infrastructure failures, etc.). The Independent Surfer reserves the right, but in no way shall be required to offer comparable services and make changes to service providers if needed. If a trip gets cancelled due to force majeure, you will only receive a refund covering the funds that have not yet been sent or allocated to accommodation & service providers. If an accommodation or service provider chooses to refund us for a cancelled trip, we will refund you your portion of such funds as well.
Refund of Travel Arrangements:
The Independent Surfer is not responsible for the costs of any travel arrangements (including, without limitation flights, airline transfers, extra hotel stays, etc.) affected due to a cancellation or rescheduling of a trip.
Visas & Passports & Other Travel Requirements:
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a valid passport and meet all country entry requirements. You are responsible for obtaining any required visas. The Independent Surfer will not be held liable or provide any refund if you are refused entry to a country due to lack of travel documentation or failure to meet other country entry or travel requirements.
Medical & Travel Insurance:
We highly recommend buying travel insurance and international medical insurance. Please also ensure your insurance includes hazardous activity insurance. The Independent Surfer will not be liable for a guests failure to obtain proper medical and/or travel insurance and resulting costs thereof.
Baggage delays & loss:
The Independent Surfer shall not be liable for any baggage delays or loss, including any damage or loss of surfboards.
Travel Delays or interruptions:
The Independent Surfer will not be liable for any conditions that delay your arrival or departure and add to your cost, such as extra charges caused by delays (late luggage, extra flights, etc.) or any variations from your itinerary (early departure, evacuation, etc.).
Online Surf Consulting Sessions
We run our online surf consulting sessions ourselves – meaning that we plan our days around our scheduled calls with you. Additionally, all sessions are planned around extreme time zone differences. In order to keep things running smoothly, we have instituted the following change and cancellation policies:
- At least 48 hours advance notice is required to cancel or make changes to an online session.
- We will not provide any refund for sessions missed due to failure to provide 48 hours notice.
- For cancellations made with at least 48 hours notice, we will provide a full refund.
- For cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice, we will not provide any refund.
- We will wait on all calls for exactly 10 minutes after the designated start time. If you do not dial in within this timeframe, we will consider your session canceled and you will not receive a refund.
- All sessions start and end at the designated times. If you dial into a session late, we will not extend your session to make up for the lost time.
Online Classes & In-Person Seminars
Our online surf classes and in-person seminars are run in a group format. Thus, we cannot accommodate any changes to class dates and times.

- For cancellations made with at least 48 hours notice, we will provide a full refund.
