Hi, I am Jordy. Founder and head coach here at the Independent Surfer. I created the Independent Surfer as an outlet to share my 15+ years of ocean knowledge with you. I have taught thousands of surfers of different abilities in various locations like California, Indonesia & Nicaragua.

We come to you. So, we offer lessons for surfers that can already surf at various different surf spots between Encinitas, Oceanside and certain area’s of Orange County. Beginner lessons are all hosted Encinitas.
Private Lessons are 1 on 1, but for both group sessions and surf club we keep it to 4 people per group. This creates a great encouraging experience for all, while still offering detailed coaching for everyone.
Yes, you do need your own wetsuit and surfboard. We recommend a 4/3 wetsuit for the Fall, Winter and Spring and 3/2 wetsuit for the summer months.
If you are a beginner and are looking for advice about what board to buy, feel free to reach out to us and we will be happy to help you choose the right board.
We usually meet in the parking lot of the specific beach that you have requested to surf at. Please add your email address and phone number so we can contact you to confirm meeting location.
Video reviews and theory classes are done via video call. We use video comparison software and drawing applications to present detailed analysis.
Yes, you can cancel or reschedule your appointment up to 24 hours before your lesson via your portal anytime, or send an email to jordy@independentsurfer.com to reschedule.
